American Standard of Perfection - Let's just do it

I have now decided that I am in this chicken breeding hobby for the long haul. My hatchery birds are now being slowly culled out and replaced by better birds that come from reliable sources. I am joining renown clubs like the Plymouth Rock Fanciers Club of America and Wyandotte breeders of America. I have been known to drive to far away places like Salina, Oklahoma and have shipped birds from out of state. This standard of perfection that I wish to achieve is slowing taking place. I  spend time attending poultry judging contests at state fairs and I'm looking at those birds that are winning the ribbons. They are spectacular. My focus is now on the poultry that meet the breed and variety descriptions found in the American Standard of Perfection.  The organization which publishes the Standard of Perfection and coordinates the recognition, description, and exhibition of all standard bred poultry in the United States is the American Poultry Association. Their mission statement is to promote and protect the standard-bred poultry industry in all its phases.To continue the publication of the American Standard of Perfection with the breed and variety descriptions for all the recognized purebred fowl. To encourage and protect poultry shows as being the show window of our industry, an education for both breeders and public, and a means of interesting young future breeders in taking up poultry. To assist, encourage and help educate the junior poultry man to the sound and practical value of standard-bred poultry and pure breeding. Founded in Buffalo, New York in 1873, the APA is the oldest livestock organization in the United States. Anyone interested in raising standard bred poultry (chickens, turkeys, ducks, and geese) should invest in a copy of the Standard on the APA website.
