It's almost time for the Bluebonnet Classic 2011

The Brazos Valley Poultry Club was founded in 1983 to support and promote exhibition poultry in the Central to Southeast Texas area. This club has put on many poultry shows, educational meetings and gatherings. The Brazos Valley Poultry Club puts on the Bluebonnet Classic Poultry show in College Station, which has become one of the largest poultry shows in Texas. At this show, they have an Open and Junior show along with a Backyard and Egg show. A few years ago they added a Pigeon and Gamecock show along with exhibits and a sales area. They also have the best poultry raffle and Auction around that is hugely popular. There will be something for everyone at the Bluebonnet Classic. This is a one day show in January in what is considered the best show barn in Texas. There must be at least a 1000 chickens shown here annually. For information about the show, please email Claudia Choate at claudia@bluebonnetclassic.com

Don't forget that the 65th Legislature passed an act which requires that all domestic poultry used in the production of offspring for the sale or trade be Pullorum-Typhoid negative. The act also requires that all poultry going to public exhibition or sale must be Pullorum-Typhoid tested and found to be free of infection, or originate from a certified Pullorum-Typhoid Clean Flock. The Act was amended by the 72nd Legislature transferring responsibility to the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory from the Texas Agriculture Experiment Station. This being said if you want to show chickens in Texas you must first have your birds tested once a year by the Texas Dept of Veterinarian Medicine. This test is free but you must contact the testing agent in your area.
